Soul Food Restaurant Menu Ordering
My favorite soul food is catfish because I used to catch them suckers in a man-made lake with globs of white dough looking bait. Urban soul food cooking styles are all over the place. Soul food is food you can feel in your belly. Even, appetizers could fill you up and if you drink that sweet tea with it you'll be bloated.
I had soul food when I was a young boy growing up in North Carolina cause that's what my mom cooked. We grew it too. Had okra, black eyed pea, polk salad, fried-chicken perfected for the after church meal, collard greens, livermush, grits, chitterlins, pigs feet ( Mr. Johnny sold pigs feet drenched in vinegar from a big jar in his store) and much much more. Wikipedia got it right when they say that soul food is closely related to the cuisine of the Southern United States. They say the term came about in mid-1960s and that's about when I had it at home before I bought hot food prepared outside the house.
The AboutBlackBoston.com goal for this Soul Food section is explore soul food as it is being served today in Boston and Cambridge.
